Horn and Bone

Horn and Bone

Project Date:  2010-2011

Since replacing the illegal trade in tortoise shell products, horn has become a widely used medium for craft in the Caribbean region. Horn artisans practice their craft in workshops in downtown Port-au-Prince, an area almost completely destroyed by the devastating 2010 earthquake. Producers have recently begun to rebuild their ateliers and are eager for business. Artisans are returning to Port-au-Prince to offer their products in gallery stores with a selection of jewelry designs, picture frames and boxes, horn and bone with tropical woods, and coconut shell and stone.
