Egyptian Ceramics
Project Date: 2009-2012Working with two distinct artisan groups located in the "ceramics village" in old Cairo, ATA is facilitating production of a range of ceramic lanterns and wall art. Abedine is a family owned workshop that has been producing ceramics for over 300 years and employees 15 artisans full time. Most workers complete a product from start to finish, however with larger orders additional throwers, piercers and painters are brought on staff. The range of products includes large garden vases, lanterns, wall art and plates for both decorative and table use. Ceramics producer Haytham Hedayah has worked closely with American designer Mimi Robinson over the past two years to develop and implement ceramic designs for ATA. He has also assisted in the coordination and training of other production facilities.
