This community expresses its cultural heritage through the crafting of black pottery products, their principal source of income. Most pieces are shaped by the women and the men are responsible for firing the pieces in kilns made from white dirt and clay. One of the distinguishing features of Guatajiagua’s products is the natural black color obtained from the seeds of the Nacazcol tree. Artemano's main goals are to pay a fair salary to the artisans, improve artisan quality of life and to encourage a new generation of artisans to maintain traditional artisanry.
