Al Sharif
Project Date: 2009-2012Al Sharif is a small workshop owned and operated by Mohammed Sharif and located in Cairo’s “City of the Dead,” an area of central Cairo where houses and workshops are surrounded by ancient cemeteries. The company was founded over 20 years ago and has experienced continued growth with clients in the United States, France and Japan. Al Sharif has five full time employees who produce blown glass and filigree metal frames for lanterns. When filling larger orders, the company is able to employ an additional 150 women from the surrounding neighborhood who pick up products and supplies at the workshop and complete the items at their homes.
